Why Should You Pray for Sick Pets?

According to the devotional writer Melinda Eye Cooper, we should pray for our sick pets because Christ advised us to pray about everything we care about.

This is in Philippians 4:6-7. It says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

As Christians, we are encouraged to cast all our burdens on the Lord. When a pet is sick, it can be a very stressful period because, naturally, we love them so much, and seeing them in pain is hard.

But God can ease our stress if we come to Him in prayer. If it is a care or concern on our hearts, the Bible is clear, God cares about us and those cares and concerns.

Praying for our sick pets can also beseech God to restore them to full health. God is the ultimate healer so asking for His aid through the intercession of the patron saint of animals, St. Francis of Assisi can maybe make a miracle happen.

Can You Say These Prayers for Any Type of Pet?

Depending on your needs, these prayers can be used for any type of pet. The great thing about them is that they are customizable.

You can be specific about the illness/diagnosis (if you know it), call the pets by name, or even say some of the specific worries you have.

Humble yourself and open your heart to the Lord. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). It will make your prayer more personalized.

  1. Thank you for the prayers for pets. I was looking for a prayer for my cat, Noodles, who is having surgery on her eye tomorrow to close a hole in her cornea. Since she is already deaf, she cannot afford to lose her eyesight as well. Prayers for a good surgery and quick recovery!
