As a minister, I am tasked with serving my congregation in many facets. This includes during times of worry and mental stress.
If I told you most of these difficult times usually involved the sickness of the individual or a close relative, that would not be shocking. But how about if I told you many of my church members are stressed out by sick pets?
I get countless pet owners a month asking for spiritual help. The number one thing I advise them to do is pray. In my books, it is the most comforting act for any Christian.
And what better way to pray than through a patron saint? Miracles can be performed through St. Francis prayers for sick pets.
Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of all animals, ecology, and pets. He is known for the exemplary love and care he showed all animals, birds, and fish. Through his intercession, we can ask for favor and healing from God for our sick pets. Here is a good intercession prayer to St. Francis: “O heavenly Saint Francis, patron of all animals, your protection for them is so great, so prompt, and so strong. Please assist (name of pet) with your powerful intercession. Through your prayer, may they obtain God’s healing powers. May their suffering be taken away and their health restored. Saint Francis, pray for us. Amen.”
It came to my attention that many Christians do not know much about patron saints and how helpful they can be. In this case, I thought it is important the masses get educated on the patron saint of sick pets through this article.

We know that the Lord is the giver of wisdom and knowledge to all medical staff, including veterinarians. This is shown in Colossians 4:14 that reads, “Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas.”
It is crucial to pray for such caregivers when your sick pet is in their hands. We also pray that they be kind, caring, and compassionate.
Why Should You Pray for Sick Pets?
According to the devotional writer Melinda Eye Cooper, we should pray for our sick pets because Christ advised us to pray about everything we care about.
This is in Philippians 4:6-7. It says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
As Christians, we are encouraged to cast all our burdens on the Lord. When a pet is sick, it can be a very stressful period because, naturally, we love them so much, and seeing them in pain is hard.
But God can ease our stress if we come to Him in prayer. If it is a care or concern on our hearts, the Bible is clear, God cares about us and those cares and concerns.
Praying for our sick pets can also beseech God to restore them to full health. God is the ultimate healer so asking for His aid through the intercession of the patron saint of animals, St. Francis of Assisi can maybe make a miracle happen.
Can You Say These Prayers for Any Type of Pet?
Depending on your needs, these prayers can be used for any type of pet. The great thing about them is that they are customizable.
You can be specific about the illness/diagnosis (if you know it), call the pets by name, or even say some of the specific worries you have.
Humble yourself and open your heart to the Lord. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). It will make your prayer more personalized.
