As a Christian theologian, I am always interested in learning different people’s beliefs about various occurrences. Not long ago, I was interested in understanding how various people interpret hugging dreams after my friend told me she kept having these dreams.
She wanted to know whether there was a hidden message behind those dreams, so I conducted extensive research. I consulted several dream interpreters, my fellow theologians, and church leaders for their thoughts on the Hugging Dreams.
I even checked with people from different cultures and religions about the dreams, which enabled me to discover different meanings across cultures.
Recently, we had an online forum discussion about dreams when one of the members said she knows her deceased husband is watching over her because she always dreams of him hugging her.
It led to a heated discussion where I was asked many questions. Having done extensive research, I answered all of them.
So, let us get into the biblical meaning of hugging in dreams.

What does the Bible say about hugging?
Hugging is used in the Bible as a form of greeting between people who love each other. There are many instances where the Bible uses the term embracing, which also means hugging to show greetings.
For instance, in Genesis 33:4, the Bible records that when Esau saw Jacob, he ran, threw his arms around him, embraced and kissed him. Esau greeted Jacob by embracing Him to show his love and affection for his brother.
Though Esau was angry with his brother, he greeted him with a hug. Therefore, as a Christian, it is okay to greet your fellow Christians with a hug to show your affection for them.
Also, in Mark 10:13-16, the Bible states that when the people were bringing children to Jesus, he took them in his arms and blessed them. Jesus showed his love for the children by embracing and blessing them.
In this scripture, love was the reason why Jesus embraced the children. Therefore, the Bible teaches that love is the foundation of human relationships and affection, including hugging.
1 Peter 5:14 instructs all Christians to greet one another with a holy kiss of love. This is because Jesus commands us in John 13:34-35 to love one another just like he loves us, and in doing so, we will be showing the world that we are his followers.
Therefore, Jesus wants his followers to show love for one another through good gestures that warm each other’s hearts, such as hugging.

Feeling blessed or wanting to bless someone
There are two specific references in the Bible where hugging/embracing is used to show support, Divine Support. Song of Solomon 2:6 explains that the right hand of her beloved embraces her, and his left hand is under her head.
Similarly, Mark 10:16 records that Jesus took the children into His arms and blessed them. In these two verses, hugging is used for blessings and support.
Therefore, when you dream about hugging, it could mean that God is giving you his blessings because you are on the right path. It can also mean that you are satisfied with God’s blessings and ready for him to bless others through you.
Relief and Gratitude
In Genesis 33:4, the Bible records that when Esau saw Jacob, he ran, threw his arms around him, embraced and kissed him. The scripture teaches that instead of Esau succumbing in his murderous rage towards Jacob, he ran and hugged him, resulting in Jacob’s relief and gratitude for his brother’s change of heart.

You might wake up feeling like you can finally stop worrying about something, or you are thankful for something that has happened in your life.

In addition, from the same scripture, Christians believe that hugging dreams is a sign of forgiveness and letting go. When Esau hugged his brother, Jacob, he showed that he had let off his anger and had forgiven Jacob even before he asked for forgiveness.
When you dream of hugging someone you have unresolved issues with, it shows that you are ready to let go of the past and want to forgive them.
You are accepting them back into your life wholeheartedly.
