Reading the Bible has been my favorite pastime activity since my days in theology school. I am often drawn to the Book of Psalms, especially when my mind feels cloudy, and I wish to remind myself of God’s Peace.

As a result, I’ve become quite familiar with the many psalms that speak of this kind of Peace.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share about God’s Peace in one of our joint Bible study sessions, where one of the members asked about the Psalms they should use to pray to find God’s Peace.

I shared my knowledge, and after that, I wrote this article to reach more people.

11 Best Psalms to read for Peace of mind

If you are struggling with your mental state, have endless racing thoughts, are worried, and need to find Peace, reading any of these verses will bring you Peace of mind.

Psalm 29

“Praise the Lord, you heavenly angels! Praise the Lord’s glory and power. Praise the Lord and honor his name! Worship the Lord in all his holy beauty. The Lord’s voice can be heard over the sea. The voice of our glorious Lord God is like thunder over the great ocean. The Lord’s voice is powerful. It shows the Lord’s glory.”

This Psalm is a source of encouragement for most people, and if you are feeling deflated and anxious, reading this Psalm will bring you Peace.

The words in this Psalm say that God not only strengthens His people but also blesses them all with ease.  

Psalm 34:14

“Stop doing anything evil, and do good. Look for peace, and do all you can to help people live peacefully.”

“The Lord is close to those who have suffered disappointment. He saves those who are discouraged. Good people might have many problems, but the Lord will take them all away. He will protect them completely. Not one of their bones will be broken. But troubles will kill the wicked. The enemies of those who live right will all be punished. The Lord saves his servants. All who go to him for protection will escape punishment.”

In this Psalm, the Psalmist encourages believers to trust God because God is always close to them. If you feel brokenhearted and worrisome, this Psalm may help you see things differently.

Here, the Psalmist encourages believers to keep trusting in God because He is the only one capable of providing eternal Peace and overcoming evil.

It also urges humankind to take refuge in God to avoid condemnation and gain lasting Peace.

Psalm 4:8

“When I go to bed, I sleep in peace, because, Lord, you keep me safe.”

In this verse, the psalmist talks about the Peace that God offers believers as they lie down and sleep because they trust that God will keep them safe always as long as they keep trusting him.

Psalm 91

“You can go to God Most High to hide. You can go to God All-Powerful for protection. I say to the Lord, ‘You are my place of safety, my fortress. My God, I trust in you.’ God will save you from hidden dangers and from deadly diseases.
You can go to him for protection. He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies. You can trust him to surround and protect you like a shield. You will have nothing to fear at night and no need to be afraid of enemy arrows during the day. You will have no fear of diseases that come in the dark or terrible suffering that comes at noon.”

Psalm 46:9-10

“He stops wars all over the world. He breaks the soldiers’ bows, shatters their spears, and burns their shields. God says, “Stop fighting and know that I am God! I am the one who defeats the nations; I am the one who controls the world.”

Psalm 116:1-7

“I love the Lord for hearing me, for listening to my prayers. Yes, he paid attention to me, so I will always call to him whenever I need help. Death’s ropes were around me. The grave was closing in on me. I was worried and afraid. Then I called on the Lord’s name. I said, ‘Lord, save me!’ The Lord is good and merciful; our God is so kind.”

This is the other Psalm that will bring you Peace. In this Psalm, the Psalmist encourages you to read these words, pray, and abide by them to receive the Peace of mind and soul you desire.

It’s a source of encouragement for all who need Peace and a reminder of God’s righteousness, grace, compassion, and protection.

The Psalm also reminds believers of God’s protection, especially to all who believe in His law, and through His love, God brings rest to humankind.

Psalm 16:9-11

“So my heart and soul will be very happy. Even my body will live in safety, because you will not leave me in the place of death. You will not let your faithful one rot in the grave. You will teach me the right way to live. Just being with you will bring complete happiness. Being at your right side will make me happy forever.”

How to pray the Psalms for Peace of mind

You should recite the Psalms during prayer to find Peace of mind.

The Psalmist uses different words to encourage Peace, and if you have been struggling with anxiety or have difficulty settling or calming your mind, find one Psalm, such as Psalm 91, then recite it in prayer.

Use words like I or Me to personalize your prayer, and have faith that these words will bring sweeping Peace through you.

It’s also vital that when you pray and ask God for Peace of mind, you make your requests according to the Will of God.

It’s also important to remember that the Psalms are words inspired by the Holy Spirit.
