What does the Bible say about the truth?
One of the most fundament things that the Bible says about the truth is in John 8:32. In this verse, Jesus was speaking to a group of Jews who believed in him. He told them that they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free. The Jews believed that they were free because they were descendants of Abraham and were not in captivity. Therefore, the Bible says that the truth will set you free. This saying has been adopted even in the secular world and is often used when convincing people to embrace the truth.
The Bible says that Jesus is the truth in John 14:6. In this verse, Jesus was answering a question from Thomas, one of his disciples. Thomas expressed concern that he did not know where Jesus was going and hence did not know the way. In response, Jesus told him that He was the way, truth, and life and that no one would go to the Father except through him.
What Does It Mean To Know the Truth?
According to the Bible, to know the truth is to know the word of God. The Bible supports this fact in John 8:31-32, which says that if one abides by the word of Jesus, one will know the truth. Therefore, it means that knowing the truth means abiding by the words of Jesus, which are contained in the Bible. In John 1, the Bible refers to Jesus as the word of God.
To know the truth also means to know Jesus, accept him as your savior, and grow your relationship with him. In John 14:6, Jesus declared that he was the truth. However, one should note that there is a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing him. Knowing about Jesus is having information and facts about him. Such only create knowledge about him but does not result in knowing him. knowing him calls for having a relationship. Therefore, knowing the truth means knowing Jesus by having a relationship.
