As a theologian, I take an interest in the religious practices of various Christian denominations. While I was conducting my research on salvation for my next theology class, I came across a question of whether we can go to heaven without the Eucharist. Despite the scripture being clear on requirements to go to heaven, some doctrines still believe the Holy Communion is not the only way to salvation. I was intrigued by this and decided to visit a local Catholic and Protestant Church to know why the Eucharist was crucial in Catholic doctrine. I gained much insight from the clergy that proved useful recently. The other week, one of my theology students asked me a similar question; if Eucharist was necessary for salvation? Since I had done extensive research, I answered the students satisfactorily. Therefore, can you go to heaven without Eucharist?

There is no real proof whether those who don’t take Eucharist will go to heaven. However, the Gospel of John mentions that Jesus is the bread of life and that anyone who partakes in it shall not die but have eternal life, John6:51-58; this shows that the Eucharist is important in the quest to heaven.

They are supposed to receive the Eucharist when they are on the verge of death; it implies that the Eucharist will necessitate them to go to heaven. The Eucharist is the bridging gap between the heavens and earth. Those partaking in the Eucharist celebrated with the angels and saints; Catholics say it’s the window into heaven as they celebrate with the heavenly liturgy.

Who can take Eucharist?

According to the scriptures, believers who walk in fellowship and have faith are worthy of the Eucharist; persons who don’t believe in Jesus have no business taking it because the Eucharist has no significance to them; if someone has not undergone baptism, they cannot take up the Eucharist A person who eats and drinks of it brings judgment upon themselves because they are taking the blood of Christ.
