Being constantly on the road for evangelistic ministries and missions, my colleagues and I get nervous when we travel. Our clergy put together some Psalms verses for us to read and pray while we were on the road.
I thought to put together this article and share those verses with others who travel often to help them as they helped us.
“If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
In these verses, the Psalmist declares that wherever he goes, God is there. He says that whether he makes his bed in the depths or settles on the far side of the sea, the Almighty’s right Hand will guide him and hold him fast.
“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.”
David talks about how God is gracious and compassionate. He also declares how God is good to all. These verses encourage Christians of God’s compassion should they encounter misfortunes while traveling.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
The Psalmist says that he will lie down in peace, for the Lord makes him dwell in safety.
This verse encourages you to be calm and know that the Lord will keep you in peace as you travel up to your destination, wherever you lay your head.
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
David declares that God will command angels to guard you in all your ways. As you travel, this verse reminds you that the Lord has sent His angels to guard you, and they will protect you from danger along the way.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
In this verse, the Psalmist says that the Almighty’s word is the lamp on his feet, and that illuminates his path. Christians should confide in God’s word as they travel to give them courage and hope and light their paths ahead.
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”
This verse talks about how the Lord strengthens the steps of those who believe in Him. It also declares that those who stumble will not fall, for the Lord upholds them.
As you travel, this scripture reminds you that the Lord will make firm your step if you trust in Him. You will not lose your way, as God is holding your hand.
“You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.”
The Psalmist declares that the Lord provides a broad path for his feet so that his ankles do not falter. Christians are reminded that when they travel, the Lord will broaden their path, and they will not encounter any setbacks.
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”
In this verse, David says that the Lord’s angel surrounds those who believe in Him, and He delivers them. This verse is an encouragement that as you travel, God’s angels are watching over you, and God will deliver you from any hardships you face along the way.
Some Theologists recommend reading Psalms 32:7 when you are preparing to travel. In this verse, the Psalmist declares that the Lord is his hiding place and that God will protect him from trouble and surround him with songs of deliverance.
Christians should read this scripture as they prepare to travel, as it indicates that God will protect you along the way.
Journeys are unpredictable, and many people are usually crippled with fear of the unknown. However, this verse reminds us that God is the ultimate guide and protector.
Some Christians believe that Psalms 55:22 is also a good Psalm to read when you are preparing to travel. The verse says that you should cast your cares unto God, and He will sustain you.
Many people worry as they prepare to travel as they do not know what lies ahead. However, this verse urges Christians to cast their fears to God, and He will take care of all their doubts.
Theologians recommend reading Psalm 121:7-8 to wish someone safe travels. The verse says the Lord will protect you from harm and watch over your life.
It declares that the Lord watches over you as you come and go – now and forever. It is an encouraging verse to read to anyone traveling as it assures them that the Lord is watching over their life and is protecting them from harm.
Other Christians believe that Psalm 91:4 is an excellent verse to wish someone safe travels. In this verse, Moses declares that the Lord will cover you with his feathers and that his faithfulness will be your shield.
This scripture assures the person you are wishing for safe travels that God will protect and shield them from danger throughout their journey.
Theologians recommend identifying a verse that speaks to you spiritually and using the verse as the foundation for prayer or as the prayer itself.
You should pray according to your journey’s stage and choose a verse that resonates with preparing for the journey, starting the journey, or already traveling.
