What does the Bible say about the second coming of Jesus?
The Bible implies in Matthew 5:44 that Jesus was rejected and crucified; however, in His second coming, he will not be rejected. It further suggests that everyone will know of Jesus’s coming, and they will confess that Jesus is Lord. The Bible implies that He did not come in Glory when Jesus first came to the world. He just came as an ordinary person, born lowly and laid in a manger.
However, in His second coming, everyone will know of His return. There have been some debates going on about the second coming of Jesus. This is because different scriptures express different views. For example, in Matthew 24:36-44, the Bible suggests that God has not revealed the coming back of Jesus Christ to anyone. It also implies that the timing of Jesus’ return and the end of the age is not for us to know. We are also encouraged not to determine the date Jesus will return.
Nevertheless, the Bible says in Hebrews 9:28, “So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear the second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” This means that Jesus’s second coming will be to save Christ-followers who have walked their lives according to His teachings and are waiting for Him. Regarding this scripture, many Bible scholars believe that Jesus’s second coming will be one that will shock the world.
Titus 2:13 implies that Jesus is our blessed hope and will appear in glory.
What did Jesus mean by saying, ‘The Kingdom of God is near?’
Mark 1:15 says, “the time promised by God has come at last. The kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” according to this scripture, when we hear the word “kingdom” what comes to mind is the place in which a king is ruling. Nevertheless, in the scripture, in the book of Mark 1:15, the word “kingdom” can mean ‘reign,’ ‘sovereign’ or ‘rule.’ So, when Jesus said, “The Kingdom of God is near,” He was referring to the coming of God’s authority and power, fulfilling Isaiah 52:7.
However, some Biblical scholars believed that Jesus used the phrase ‘The Kingdom of God is near” to mean that one can go to heaven after death.
According to Luke 10:11, Matthew 10:7, and Luke 9:2:60, the scriptures imply that God’s reign is breaking in and changing all things among us. Just the way Jesus’ parables proclaimed the kingdom of God is the same as Jesus’s life. Jesus is deemed a warm welcome, a healing touch, a listening ear, and a trusted person. The scriptures suggest that if you want to bear witness to the kingdom of God coming near, you must begin by paying attention to places and people around you.
As the Bible suggests in Ezekiel 2:7, Jesus uttered those words just as the old prophets had said to see whether people would hear or forbear the teaching of God. These were directed toward the believing and the unbelieving.
What needs to happen before Jesus comes back?
2 Thessalonians 2:1-2.says, “Now we request you, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.” From this verse, Paul told the young church that many trials and persecutions would face them. However, people must persevere in faithfulness, brotherly love, and knowledge.
Before Jesus Christ comes back, apostasy will increase, and the man of lawlessness will be revealed. This has been recorded in the book of 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8. The reason why these events have to happen before the coming of Jesus is to fulfill the prophecy of the scriptures. It is believed that apostasy has already begun and will continue. Furthermore, the man of lawlessness will deceive people using the name of God and Jesus.
The Bible suggests that God will allow the Man of Lawlessness to do his work so that believers who love lies will get their fill. In the end, God will destroy the Man of Lawlessness in two steps; the word of truth and the appearance of Jesus.
