Reading through the story of Hannah, all I could see is a woman who holds on to God’s promises despite everything. She was despised and shamed for being barren, but she prayed daily and believed in miracles. However, what I have not analyzed deeply is what this remarkable woman symbolizes. Hannah did not only bottle up all this shame, but her husband’s second wife (Peninnah) did not make it easy for her (1 Samuel 1:6-7).

For several years, Hannah went before the Lord to pray for a child. She poured her heart to the Lord promised that if the Lord blessed her with one son, she would bring him back to the Lord to serve Him. True to her word when she conceived and gave birth, she took her only son to serve God with the high priest Eli. She fervently prayed to God, pouring out her heart and soul. She prayed to God to the point that even the High Priest Eli thought she was drunk. Hannah believed that God would answer her prayers, and that is why she did not cease praying. God actually heard her and blessed her with a miracle son, Samuel. Trusting God’s Plan even if nothing seems to work out in your favor: Hannah’s prayer and life demonstrated her surrender to God’s will. This remarkable woman trusted in God’s timing and promises. Even though barren for several years, she had faith that she would be blessed with a son. She even vowed that if God granted her a son, she would dedicate him to God’s service. After Samuel’s birth, Hannah fulfilled her promise and brought her only miracle son to the temple to serve the Lord. Christians can learn to trust God’s plan even when circumstances seem difficult, knowing that He is working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
