As a born-again Christian, born and raised in a family of pastors, I have always been curious about the narrative of the Bible. By reading the Bible, I have come to learn that it uses figurative language to relay the message of the Lord; hence, I should be careful while interpreting it. This week, I have read several verses with the word mist, which has made me curious to find out, “What does mist symbolize in the bible?”
One popular symbol of mist in the Bible is the uncertainty. According to James 4:14, the Bible implies that we do not know what will happen to us tomorrow, we are like a mist that appears for a little while and then disappears. Christians learn that they don’t know what their life holds for them since their life is like a mist that can disappear in no time. Therefore, we are not to be too proud in this life because only God knows our tomorrow.
In this article, I invite you to join me as we delve into the topic of symbolism and the meaning of mist in the Bible. We will get to learn about the prophetic and spiritual meaning of mist in the Bible and what it means to dream about it. Also, we will uncover what the bible says about mist and the Bible verses that mention it, so read till the end.
What does the bible say about mist?
The Bible says that human life is like mist. According to James 4:14, the Bible implies that human beings don’t know what might happen tomorrow because they are like a mist that appears for a little while and then disappears the next minute. In this verse, the apostle was teaching the followers of Christ that they can only depend on God for their tomorrow to be great. He was teaching that we should not be proud because without God we are nothing and will disappear like a mist disappears in no time.
Also, the Bible says that mist was used to water the grounds of the Earth before creation. According to Genesis 2:5-6, the Bible implies that before the creation of the Garden of Eden, there were no plants or man to cultivate the land, however, there was a mist that would rise on the surface of the earth and water it. From this verse, Christians learn that mist existed for a long time and even when it didn’t rain, mist used to provide water to the grounds of earth.
Bible verses about mist
Genesis 2:5-6 implies that there was no shrub on earth and the plants had not yet started to sprout because God had not made rain to pour on earth and there was no person to cultivate. However, there was a mist that would rise on the earth and water the surface.
Acts 13:11 the Bible implies that Paul said to an evil man that the hand of the Lord was on him and he will be blind and not see the sun for some time and immediately, darkness and mist fell upon him and he started asking those that were with him to show him the way.
James 4:14 implies that we do not know what will happen to us tomorrow, we are like a mist that appears for a little while and then disappears.
Hosea 13:3 implies that they will be like mist and morning clouds that disappear and like smoke that comes from a chimney.
2 Peter 2:17 implies that there are springs that don’t have water and mists that are driven by storms for those who have received the darkness.
Isaiah 44:22 implies that the Lord says that he has wiped the sin of human beings like a thick cloud or a heavy mist, therefore, they should return to Him because He has redeemed them.
What does the mist in Genesis mean?

According to Genesis 2:5-6, the Bible speculates that there were no shrubs on earth and the plants had not sprouted from the grounds. However, mist existed and it would rise on earth and water the ground. This verse tells us how Earth used to get water before God had created man to cultivate the land and plants to grow on the land. Theologians believe that maybe this was to bring an idea of streams that were then created in the Garden of Eden.
What does the mist in the bible represent?
According to studies from scholars, Mist is used in the Bible to represent the people that bring confusion and uncertainty because of their unrighteousness. According to 2 Peter 2:17, the Bible implies that there are springs that don’t have water and mists that are driven by storms for those who have received the darkness. From this verse, christens believe that mist is used to represent the confusion that people get when they are unrighteous. It is like a punishment that God sends people that don’t live according to his will.
What is the prophetic meaning of mist?
The prophetic meaning of mist is that it represents something that is not permanent. According to Isaiah 44:22, the Bible implies that God told the Israelites to remember that He has redeemed them, and like a mist, He has made their sins disappear. God uses mist to show the Israelites that their sins are not permanent because he is able to forgive them. A mist only appears for a while and then disappears, therefore, the prophetic meaning of mist is that whatever you are going through will pass away quickly because God has the power to make it disappear.
2 symbolic meanings of mist in the bible

Symbol of Shutting out Lights
According to Acts 13:11, the Bible suggests that mist fell upon a man after Paul told him that the hand of the lord was upon him and he would be blind and not see the sun. From this verse, the mist is like the darkness that one sees when the lights are shut. Therefore, it was a mist that befell the man to make him blind and not see light, because the light had been shut from his eyes.
Symbol of something that passes away quickly
According to Isaiah 44:22, the Bible implies that mist is something that will disappear soon. This shows that mist is like a situation that is not permanent. It will come to an end after the end which means that there is hope for the future.
What is the spiritual meaning of mist?
Many people believe that spiritually, a mist has been used in the Bible as a metaphor for divinity. It is said to be an image that shows a human limitation in contrast with the unlimited nature of God. There are things that humans are limited to doing and seeing. Just like when in a mist we cannot see something that is far away, they also cannot see things that God has limited them to see and they just have an imaginary vision of some things. Therefore, the mist is like the way our minds are obscured by delusions about some things.
Additionally, a mist is said to represent how sometimes human beings don’t know what is happening in their life until it’s too late. This can be because of ignorance ad when it is too late to take action, one has to deal with the consequences whether negative or positive. It is just like when there is a mist, one has to take a closer look to figure out what is standing ahead of them because the image is blurry. However, some people decide to assume and don’t focus on looking at it.
However, it is also said to spiritually present the ability to see things more clearly when we are focused and looking at things from the right angle. It spiritually shows that no matter how big you feel your goal is, if you are focused and try working on it from the right angle, you will get to achieve it. In a mist, even though the mist is too much and blessing your image, if you try looking at something from the right angle and without getting distracted, you can manage to see that which you are looking at.
Is mist the same as the dew of God?
No, Mist is not the same as the Dew of God. According to theologians, the word “mist” has been used in some verses instead of the word “Dew”. However, Mist and Dew are not the same because Dew in the Bible is used to show the abundance of the blessing of God while Mist is a curse given to evil people. According to Genesis 27:28, the Bible implies that Isaac prayed for blessings for Jacob by saying that God gives him heaven’s dew. This means that he prayed for overflowing blessings upon Jacob. However, according to Acts 13:11, the Bible implies that Paul said to an evil man that the hand of the Lord was on him and he will be blind and not see the sun for some time, and immediately, darkness and mist fell upon him and he started asking those that were with him to show him the way. In this verse, the mist is used to show a curse or punishment that was given to an evil man that did not follow the will of God. Therefore, the mist and the Dew of God are different.
What does it mean to see a mist in your dreams?
Many people believe that seeing mist in your dream means that things are happening around you that you don’t understand, however, if you are focused and take a closer look at them, you might be able to figure them out. When you are looking at something when there is a mist, you cannot see it clearly because you see something which is fleeting. It is like there is a cloud that is obscuring your vision and making it impossible to see what you are looking at. However, if you look at it carefully, you can finally get to see the object you are looking at when there is a mist. Therefore, this dream can be a warning that you are not focused. It could be telling you that you are not looking at things in your life from the right angle or closely.
