If you read the Bible keenly, you will come across the story of how Satan was the most beautiful angel of God until he rebelled against him and was thrown from heaven. As a Christian with fifteen years in ministry, I am always thrilled to learn more about the fall between God and Satan. You may also be interested in knowing more about Satan’s fall and might ask, “when did Satan fall?”
The Bible does not give us the exact year or date when Satan fell. However, bible scholars from got question organization suggest that Satan fell before the first human beings (Eve and Adam) were created, as he was present in the garden of Eden as a serpent to tempt them. Bible scholars have also suggested that Satan fell before Jesus came on earth to die for our sins, as he reveals in Luke 10:18 that he saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven, which suggests that he was present during the fall of Satan.
So, join me until the end as I discuss other topics related to this title. I will discuss if the Bible has specified when Satan fell if there are theological estimates of when Satan fell from heaven if it is confirmed whether Satan fell to earth, and much more.
Does the Bible specify when Satan fell?
The Bible does not explicitly record the time or year Satan fell. However, there are a few books in the Bible that vividly describes the fall of Satan. Ezekiel 28:11-15 narrates why Go threw Satan out from heaven. The book of Ezekiel describes Satan as an angel full of wisdom which had been created to perfection. He was even anointed as a guardian of cherub until wickedness begot him. Satan was filled with violence and sinned, which made God throw him from heaven to earth.
The book of revelations 12:7-9 also describes what happened before Satan was thrown out of heaven, although it does not give us the exact time or year. Revelations reveal that a war broke in heaven where the angel Michael and his other angels were fighting against the dragon, also known as the devil or Satan. This led to Satan being hurled from heaven to earth together with his angels.
The book of Isaiah 14:12-15 also gives us an insight into what led to the fall of Satan. The book of Isaiah reveals how Satan had planned to overthrow the kingdom and leadership of God and make himself the most high. Although these three scriptures help us know what led to the fall of Satan, they do not specify when Satan fell from heaven.
Are there theological estimates of when Satan fell from heaven?
No precise theological estimates of when Satan fell from heaven have been made. However, a few theologians have suggested that Satan’s fall might have occurred after the angels had been created; this is before humankind was created and before he got to lead Eve into sin. Theologians from the Ministry magazine organization also suggested that although they do not have an estimation of when Satan fell from heaven, he might have fallen not too long before God created the earth and the first people.
Did Satan fall down to earth?
A few scriptures in the Bible reveal that Satan fell down to earth. The book of Isaiah 12:12 states that Satan fell from heaven to earth. We also see from the Bible that Satan fell down to earth in the book of revelations, explaining how he was dragged together with his angels and thrown to the earth.
The book of Ezekiel 28:17 records how Satan was thrown down to earth. The book explains how Satan’s heart became so proud because of his beauty and his wisdom that God threw him down to earth.
Is Satan’s fall symbolic in the Bible, or is it literal?
Satan’s fall to earth is considered to have been a literal one, as we see in the Bible that he had access to God’s servant Job on earth. The book of Job 1:6-12 reveals how one day, the angels of God presented themselves before God, and Satan was among them. God then asked Satan where he had come from, in which he told him that he had been roaming through the earth, going back and forth. He requests God to let him tempt his servant job and see if he will remain faithful. From the scripture, it is evident that Satan had access to earth.
Did Satan fall before or after the creation of man?
It is unclear whether Satan fell from heaven before or after the creation of man, as the Bible does not reveal that. However, most religious scholars and theologians believe that Satan fell before the creation of man, as he was present when God was laying the foundation of the earth, as stated in Job 38:4-7.
Most religious scholars have also suggested that Satan fell from heaven before the creation of man, as he was the one that disguised himself in the form of a serpent and tempted Eve, as described in Genesis 3.
