What is healing according to the Bible?

Healing refers to the forces that restore, change, support, and nurture the entire person (body, mind, and spirit) in every dimension of existence. In the Bible, Healing is seen as a way for God to demonstrate his love and care for humanity.

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is seen healing people with various physical and mental ailments, including blindness, leprosy, and paralysis. In these stories, Jesus can heal through his touch or words.

Beyond physical Healing, the Bible also speaks of emotional and spiritual Healing. For example, Psalms 147:3 suggests that God can heal emotional pain and comfort those suffering.

What Does the Bible Say about Healing?

The Bible has a lot to say about Healing.

In the Old Testament, God promises to heal us if we listen to him and follow his commands. (Exodus 15:26)

Healing is one of the benefits of having a relationship with God. (Psalm 103:2-3)

The prophet Isaiah speaks of a future Messiah who will take on our pain and suffering, and we will be healed by his wounds. (Isaiah 53:4-5)

Spiritual Healing refers to healing spiritual sins, such as guilt, shame, or a sense of separation from God. Examples include the forgiveness of sins in John 8:4-11 and the exorcism of demons (Matthew 8:28-34)

What is a biblical example of Healing?

One example of Biblical Healing is the Healing of the blind man in John 9:1-7. In this story, Jesus and his disciples came across a man who was blind from birth. The disciples enquired from Jesus if the man’s blindness was a result of sin, but Jesus replied that it was not because of sin but so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Jesus then instructed the man to wash in the Pool of Siloam after making mud with his saliva and applying it to the man’s eyes. The man obeyed, and he could see for the first time when he washed his eyes.
