When I was a theology student at the university, I had a roommate who could not sleep without
placing crystals under his pillow. He believed that crystals were not only decorative but also
had healing properties. This made me wonder if, as a Christian, I could use crystals. As a
student of the Bible, I was curious to find answers to the question, does the Bible teach about
crystals?
In this article, I will discuss where the Bible mentions crystals and what kind of crystals it
mentions. Join me on this exploration and learn whether they have spiritual healing. By the
end of it, you will also learn if Christians can use crystals. Read on to find out more!
Where does the bible mention crystals?
Throughout the Bible, crystals are referred to as valuable and precious stones. The Book of Job 28:19 talks about the value of a crystal called topaz. This verse says, the topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.
The Bible also mentions crystals in Proverbs, where rubies are compared to wisdom. Proverbs 8:11 says, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Lamentations 4:7 also uses crystals in analogy. This verse says, her princess was purer than snow, whiter than milk, their bodies were more ruddy than coral, the beauty of their form was like sapphire.
The Bible also talks about crystals in Exodus 39:10-13. This verse says, And they set it in 4 rows of stones, the first row was a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle, this was the first row. And the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper, they were inclosed in ouches of gold in their inclosings.
The book of Revelation mentions the clarity of crystals in verse 22:1. This verse says, Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the lamb.
Ezekiel 28:13 also mentions crystals. This verse says, You were in Eden, the Garden of God, every precious stone was your covering, The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
What kind of crystals does the bible mention?
From the verses above, you can tell that the Bible mentions different kinds of crystals. They include rubies, sapphires, emerald, amethyst, topaz, jasper, carnelian, turquoise, chrysolite, beryl, lapis lazuli, jacinth, agate, and onyx.
Each crystal mentioned in the Bible is different in its appearance and composition. It has a uniform material with a consistent internal structure. Within every crystal is a unique arrangement of molecules. The Bible describes such crystals as beautiful, and it says that they are clear and they sparkle.
Do crystals have spiritual healing?
Though the world believes that crystals can transform a body’s aura and stimulate spiritual growth, the Bible does not state that these gemstones have spiritual healing. Crystal healing is a pseudoscience that implies that they can heal one both physically and spiritually. People believe that placing a crystal in the body can stimulate its chakras.
Other people also believe that crystals contain an inherent power that can be used to their benefit. That is why some people try to use them to eliminate bad energy and bring good luck into their lives. In Feng shui, people believe that crystals can give off good vibrations. According to this perspective, when a crystal absorbs bad energy, it must first be cleansed to reset the vibrations.
However, the Bible does not support such superstitious beliefs. Though the holy book acknowledges the beauty of such crystals, it does not suggest that they have any mythical properties. According to the Bible, no crystal can help ward off evil spirits or connect to God’s spirit. The Bible warns Christians from using such gemstones for such purposes.
Rather than using crystals for spiritual healing, Christians should ask God for healing. The Bible state that God is the only true healer, as explained in Psalm 103:2-4. This verse says, Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.
Any other form of restoration comes from condemned entities such as Satan. The superstitious use of crystals is an excellent example of fallen mankind taking one of God’s creations and twisting it for an ungodly purpose.
Can Christians use crystals?
Since God creates crystals, Christians can use them for decorative purposes. In the Bible, some people used crystals as a form of jewelry to decorate themselves on different occasions. There is nothing wrong with this. You can wear crystals on your neck or wrist if you don’t use them for spiritual reasons.
Christians can also place crystals in their homes to make certain areas look more appealing. However, you should not place crystals around your home for the sole purpose of protecting your home.
Do Christians consider crystals as idolatry?
Yes. Christians believe that using crystals to try and manipulate the spirit world is a form of idolatry. The Bible is also of the same opinion. Christians consider the use of crystals for amulets, talismans, or charms an example of occult practice.
The Bible warns Christians against engaging in superstition or occult practices. The Book of Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says, There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer, or a medium or a necromancer, or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of this abomination, the Lord Your God is driving them out before you.
In this verse, God warns the Israelites not to get involved with the occult as they enter the Promised Land. During that time, most pagans used sacred stones for mystical purposes. They made magical charms into small pendants and attached them to bracelets and necklaces.
God warned against this in the book of Ezekiel 13:18, which says, Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds.
Christians believe that using crystals for healing or protection is idolatry since one depends on spiritual forces other than the true Living God. The Bible forbids idolatry in different verses. For instance, in Deuteronomy 4:15, the Bible says, therefore, watch yourselves very carefully. Since you saw no form on the day that the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, beware lest you act corruptly by making a carved image for yourselves in the form of any figure.
This verse teaches Christians not to be enticed into bowing down and worshipping any other god but the True God. It shares the same message as Leviticus 19:31, which says, Do not turn to mediums or necromancers, do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them. I am the Lord your God.
The Bible classifies both idolatry and witchcraft as ungodly behaviors, as explained in Galatians 5:19-20. This verse says, Now the works of the flesh are evident, sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions.
