Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses not have windows? (What is the reason for no windows, Jehovah’s Witness?)

Last summer, I visited Canada, and I noticed a similarity between the Kingdom Halls there and in the United States. In both countries, a significant number of them are windowless.

Some of them have windows, but they are completely blocked. I know several Witnesses from work, so I decided to ask them about the logic behind the lack of windows in Kingdom Halls.

When I got the answers, I felt it would be a great idea to write this post and enlighten you.

So, why do Jehovah’s Witnesses not have windows?

Kingdom Halls lack windows for several reasons. In areas prone to insecurity, the lack of windows is a security measure. Another reason is that it is cheaper to build Kingdom Halls without windows. Again, not installing the windows saves time. That said, there are many Kingdom Halls that have windows.

In this article, we will discuss why Jehovah’s Witness worship centres lack windows. Keep reading that this concept extends to their homes.

Why don’t Jehovah’s Witness churches have windows?

Jehovah’s Witnesses give several reasons why some Kingdom Halls lack windows. The first is the cost. It is far cheaper to construct a windowless structure.

That’s because they don’t have to spend too much to heat or cool the room. The fact that congregants build the halls themselves also supports the need to make the process as inexpensive as possible.

What’s more, Kingdom Halls are usually built during the weekends. Witnesses volunteer to do this work during their leisure time.

That means the work needs to be completed quickly so the participants can rest and return to work on Monday. Installing windows is often seen as a waste of time and resources by the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Another reason why Kingdom Hall windows are barred is security. Witnesses store all their belongings in Kingdom halls, unlike groups of Catholics who have parish residences to keep their valuables.

Few or no windows reduce the risk of theft in high-risk areas. It also suggested that Witnesses like closed windows because it reduces distractions during Bible study.

Others say the windows are barred so that the Witnesses do not see the tragic events happening to non-believers on judgment day.

No. According to one religious forum, many Kingdom Hall buildings do have windows. However, Witnesses ensure that their places of worship bear no similarities with typical Christian churches.

Big windows are a common feature in Christian church buildings. That explains why Witnesses ensure that even if they have widows, the structural design is unique and discrete.

Can Jehovah’s Witness believers have windows in their homes?

Yes. There is no specific rule that prohibits Witnesses from constructing windows in their houses. The architectural design of your house as Witness is entirely up to you.

As mentioned earlier, there are extenuating circumstances that cause some Kingdom Halls to stay windows. These circumstances do not apply to the personal living spaces of the Witnesses.
