What does it mean to walk with Jesus?
To walk with Jesus means you are in a relationship with him, hence longing to walk as he did. It is simply striving to be like him, full of humility and love. The book of Micah 6:8 says, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Therefore, walking with Jesus is not a privilege for the chosen few but an activity in which God desires all of us to be engaged.
Walking with Jesus requires close proximity between the two of you. It might not be physical because he is in heaven, but if you sincerely walk with him, you will feel his manifest presence through the Holy Spirit. Walking with him means that you give him your attention and are both in a peaceful relationship. You can be sure that your walk with Jesus will be the most peaceful activity, as he promised to give those who love his peace that surpasses human understanding.
What is the secret of walking with Jesus?
The secret to walking with Jesus is to accept him in your life and believe that he is the savior. In short, salvation is the key to walking with Jesus. After you have accepted him as the savior of your life, you then have to know him deeper. Just like a close friend, you will strive to know them so as not to hurt or disrespect each other. That is also the same with Jesus.
Knowing him deeper means that you have to spend time in his presence. This can be through praying, reading the scripture, or even meditating on his word. In this way, you allow him to reveal himself to you through the Holy Spirit, whom he said in the New Testament that he would come to be our helper and testify of him. Therefore, by spending quality time in his presence, you know Jesus deeper and understand what he expects from us.
What does walking with Jesus look like today?
As stated earlier, walking with Jesus requires us to understand him deeper to know what he requires of us and who he truly is. Therefore, the daily walk with Jesus will include studying the scripture, fellowships, spending time in prayer, worshipping God, meditating upon his word, and above all, keeping the will of God. 1st John 3:2-6 says, “When we obey God, we are sure we know him. But if we claim to know him and don’t obey him, we are lying, and the truth isn’t in our hearts. We truly love God only when we obey him as we should, and then we know we belong to him. If we say we are his, we must follow the example of Jesus Christ.”
Therefore, walking with Jesus means abiding in him wholeheartedly and fully. And the scripture is clear that you cannot claim you walk with him, and yet you do not obey God. Therefore, walking with Jesus daily looks like fulfilling God’s will. And we can only know the will of God by reading his word and allowing the Holy Spirit to reign in us so that he can guide us.
Furthermore, walking with Jesus today looks like loving his people. Christ is clear on extending the love he showed us to others. He notes in his word that we should love others just like he loved us. Loving others in Christ looks like serving others and forgiving them whenever they wrong us. The scripture also requires us to forgive others so that our heavenly father can forgive us our trespasses.
Lastly, walking with Jesus today seems like keeping him at the center of every decision we make. Jesus taught us that the abundance of our words comes from what is in our hearts. Mathew 12:34 says, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.” Therefore, we should let Jesus dominate our hearts so that every decision we make, and every step we make, glorifies him.
Does the Bible teach us how to walk with Jesus?
The Bible teaches us how to walk with Jesus. Jesus himself tells us what way we can be identified as his disciples. John 13:34-35 says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this, all people will know that you are my disciples. If you have a love for one another.”
To walk in Jesus’ footsteps requires us to be selfless. He gave himself up as a sacrifice so that we may reconnect with the father. Such deep love is what we are to embody if we claim we are walking with him. Therefore, the Bible is clear that walking with Jesus requires us to love others and love Jesus too. Loving Jesus is simply obeying his commandments.
Bible verse about walking with Jesus?
Psalms 63:1-2 says, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.”
A decision to walk with Jesus daily should be with a deep zeal and yearning for him. We should run to him to quench our spiritual thirst and let him mold us.
1st John 1:7 says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son cleanses us from all sin.”
We benefit a lot from walking with Jesus. The greatest benefit is that we are cleansed from all our sins; hence we have the gift of eternal life.
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
As Christians, our flesh was put to death when Jesus died; therefore, he is the source of our new life. We are to walk with him to live a full life.
Three ways to strengthen your walk with Jesus daily
Pray everyday
The book of Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Makin prayer your first priority in the morning allows you to redirect your day to Jesus. You will commit your day to him and allow him to guide you throughout the day.
Read and meditate on the scripture daily.
By reading the scripture, you will be able to understand the will of God and walk as Christ wants you to. Furthermore, Jesus reveals his nature to us through the scripture. Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
Keep good company
The scripture is clear in the book of 1st Corinthians 15:33 that bad company ruins good morals. Therefore. If you are in Christ, ensure that the company you keep around you is in Christ, or you will be corrupted and go against the will of God.
