Different scholars and teachers of the Word have different views on Jesus. Some believe God existed in human form through Jesus others separate Jesus and God. Jesus’ existence holds controversial debate on how He came to be. Do some Christians wonder, who made Jesus?
Scriptures of the Bible give an insight into how Jesus was conceived. In Luke 1:28-38, we read how God sent an angel to break the news to Mary of her bearing a child, Jesus, through the holy spirit. Although Jesus existed before creation, through Mary, she carried Him in her womb and delivered him into his human form.
Was Jesus created, or did he always exist? Does the Bible say who made Jesus? Did God create Jesus before creating the earth? Why do Christians believe Jesus was not created? Why does Jehovah’s Witness believe Jesus was not created? If Jesus was not created, how did he come to exist? Read on to get answers to these questions.
Does the Bible say who made Jesus?
The most reliable source for information on Jesus’ existence is the Bible. The scripture gives us insight into how Jesus came to be. In the Old Testament, different prophets make various prophecies about Jesus’ birth. Jesus was born from the virgin Mary through the Holy Spirit.
We know that God brought life to all that exists in the world. Without Him, there would be nothing. Therefore, God made it possible for Jesus to be born from Mary. How magnificent is the Father that He made the impossible possible? Not even science can explain this.
Just as with any man, Joseph, Mary’s spouse, was ready to divorce her when he discovered she was with child through the Holy Spirit. Mathew 1:19 And her husband Joseph, being just a man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly, which goes further to explain the truth behind who brought Jesus into the world.
Was Jesus created, or did he always exist?
It may need clarification on whether Christ always existed or came to be after his birth through Mary. Scriptures in the Bible imply that Jesus was present before the world came to be. In Philippians 2:5-7 Jesus refers to himself as an equal to God, and if that is the case, He existed before everything came to be.
John 1:1, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In this verse, we read about God’s existence before creating the ultimate superior being over the rest of creation. The following verses reveal that the Word is the only Son of the Father.
As you read further, John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father. Considering what we read in the previous verses, the Word was God, which existed before everything. In verse 14, the Word took a human form which refers to Jesus.
As you read other passages, we see Jesus’ possession of divine power as with God and the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:27 reads, “Let us make man in our image” take note of the plural term, us instead of “me.” Which further gives evidence of Jesus’ existence before and during creation.
Did God create Jesus before creating the earth?
Some passages insinuate that God created Jesus before the earth. Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. In this verse, we see Jesus’ superiority over other creations concerning the firstborn of all creation. Which means He was there before other creations.
John 17:5 And now, Father, glorify me in thy own presence with the glory which I had with thee before the world was made. At the end of the verse, in Jesus’ words, he requests for God to give him glory, similar to what He had before the world’s creation.
Colossians 1:18 He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preminent. Jesus sits at the head of everything; this verse describes him as the beginning. If He indeed is the beginning, He comes before all creation.
Why do Christians believe Jesus was not created?
If you are a believer of the scripture, you have come across verses narrating Jesus’ birth Luke 2:28-38. It gives validation of Jesus not being created. Despite this, some believe otherwise that Jesus was created. The Holy Spirit conceived Him through Mary.
The unique nature of Jesus’ conception is not similar to any other being, which explains why Christians believe He was not created. In the Bible, we read through scriptures that mention God sending His only begotten Son to save us from our sins; John 3:16. It means He already existed and was later sent into the world.
If Jesus was not created, how did he come to exist?
God sent an angel, Angel Gabriel, to announce to Mary that she would bear a child through the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:28 And he came to her and said, “Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” Mary was a virgin, but through the Holy Spirit, she was able to conceive Jesus. Luke 1:31 And behold you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
As we have discussed, Jesus existed before creation until He was conceived through the Holy Spirit and took a human form. Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the Son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us? And they took offense at him. He belonged to a family and had siblings and parents.
Why does Jehovah’s Witness believe that Jesus was created?
Jehovah’s Witness is known for having several different beliefs from other denominations. To start with, they believe Jesus is an angel, thus the name Michael Archangel. In this case, their congregants believe Jesus was created by God and is not equal to God.
According to this denomination, Jesus is separate from the Trinity. They believe he had a pre-human existence before coming into the world. Unlike other churches, they differentiate God’s superiority from that of Jesus; they do not exist as one. Jesus was God’s first creation.
How was Jesus conceived?
Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit and brought into the world by Mary. The scripture informs us that Mary was a virgin. And they had not engaged intimately with Joseph until after the birth of Jesus Luke 2:28-38 which proves that Jesus’ birth was through spiritual means.
Mathew 1:20 But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, Son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the holy spirit. Joseph received a message through a dream that explained how Mary would be with the child.
