Though some people naturally grow to believe in Jesus because of having a foundation of being in a Christian family, some struggle with believing in him. And though they want to, they can’t get themselves to acknowledge that Jesus is God. So, if this is you, I know you are questioning, “why can I believe in Jesus?”
Many people do not believe in Jesus because they lack faith in him. They think that there is no concrete evidence of the existence of Jesus. However, the scripture notes that having faith is having hope in things that we have not seen. Another reason that may hold you back from believing in Jesus is growing up in a faithless household. That limits you from knowing Jesus on your own. However, it is never too late to start your journey of knowing Jesus Christ and believing in him.

Can you believe in God but not believe in Jesus?
Jesus is clear that he is the only way to the father, so it is not possible not to believe in him and claim that you believe in God. John 14:16 says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father but except through me.” Jesus is God; therefore, not believing in him means you do not believe in God. Therefore, there is no analogy that one can use and justify that there is a way one can believe in God and not Jesus.
What does it mean to believe in Jesus?
To believe in Jesus is to fully trust that he is God, believe in his death and resurrection, and acknowledge that it is only through him that we can be saved. Believing in Jesus means surrendering to him and giving him authority over your life. Believing in Jesus means that you are saved from your sins and future sins through confession.
Believing in Jesus is more than just knowing him. It is loving him and allowing him to teach you how to love him. He says in John 16:27, “For the father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came forth from the father.” Therefore, to believe in Jesus means to surrender and give him absolute authority over your life.
Three reasons why you don’t believe in Jesus?
- As stated earlier, you may struggle with believing in Jesus because you want more than the evidence that already exists to affirm that Christ came on earth and died for us. This makes one struggle with building concrete faith in Jesus.
- Being raised in a faithless household can contribute to one not believing in Jesus. It can be challenging to break free from the mindset and build faith in God.
- You might also struggle with believing in Jesus because of intellectual challenges. If you are constantly questioning why you should place your faith in Jesus, you may never find an intellectual answer. God says his thoughts are above ours, so you can only answer some questions by first trusting him.
Can you be a Christian and not believe in Jesus?
There is no way that one can claim they are Christian and not believe in Jesus. Jesus is the center of Christianity. It is through him that we get to be called children of God. It is through Jesus that our sins are washed away and the debt of eternal death erased from our heads. It is through Jesus Christ, and only through him, can we access the father. He says that he is the only way to the father. God says that those who do not believe in his only son Jesus Christ will perish. Therefore, the only way to be a saved Christian is by believing in Jesus Christ.
What happens if you don’t believe in Jesus?
The scripture clearly states that those who do not believe in Jesus will perish. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” You cannot get to heaven if you do not believe in Jesus. Jesus notes that he is the way, the truth, and the light, and it is only through him we can get to see the father in heaven. Therefore, if you choose not to believe in Jesus, you cannot get salvation which is the only way we can see heaven.
How can you believe in Jesus?
You can believe in Jesus by building your faith in him. You can start by acknowledging that we have all sinned and fallen short of his glory; even those who already believe in him were once sinners. Furthermore, understanding Jesus’ love for humanity is a significant building block when you want to believe in Jesus. The scripture says that he loved us even when we were sinners. Therefore, he does not just love you because you believe in him, but even when you struggle to have faith in him, he still loves you.
Once you acknowledge that everyone has sinned, believe that he is the son of God who died and resurrected and can save you from the bondage of sin. The only thing that we can do is to believe in him and let him have his way with us. Once we do that, he will manifest in ways that will cement our faith in him. Furthermore, you must seek him through fellowships with fellow believers and try to read his word to understand him.
Bible verses about believing in Jesus?
Mark 16:15-16 says, “And he said to them, go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
The scripture notes later on in Romans that there is no condemnation in those that is Christ Jesus. However, those who do not believe in him as their savior will face condemnation as they have no one to mediate and intercede for them.
John 5:24 says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come to judgment but has passed from death to life.”
After the first couple sinned against God in the Garden of Eden, God put a punishment of eternal death on our heads. However, through Jesus Christ, we are redeemed and set free of the eternal sin and punishment put on us in the Garden of Eden.
Romans 10:9 reads, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
The scripture is clear that we are saved through faith. Therefore, just accepting Christ in your life is not enough; you must believe that he was raised from the dead and have faith in him, and you will be saved.
Acts 16:31 says, “And they said, believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
The only way that we can get salvation is by believing in Jesus Christ. There is no way Christians can be set free from the bondage of sin other than placing their faith in Jesus.
