If you are mortified by the sins that you have committed, it is pretty common to feel guilty and beyond forgiveness. You might start questioning if you are still eligible for forgiveness. This mostly happens by the conviction of sin in us, which might take us to a place where we feel hopeless and helpless. So, a person might wonder, can Jesus forgive me?
No one on earth is beyond the forgiveness of God. No matter how big you view the sin that you have committed, no sin is greater than God’s love and the ability to forgive. Christ already paid the price on the cross; he became sin for our sake that we may enjoy the righteousness of God. Therefore, no matter the sin, confess and repent before God, and you will receive forgiveness.
So, what sin can’t Jesus forgive? Will Jesus forgive me no matter what? Will Jesus forgive me if I sin deliberately? How do I ask for forgiveness? How do I know Jesus has forgiven me? Is there a limit to Jesus’ forgiveness? Keep reading to get more information and answers to these questions and more.
What sin can’t Jesus forgive?
If you are in Christ Jesus, there is no sin that you can commit, and Jesus does not forgive you. However, in his teachings, Christ clearly said that the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit cannot be forgiven. Mathew 12:31 says, “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.” The context of this verse indicates that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is constantly insulting the Spirit and rejecting his work. This is an eternal sin and is unforgivable now and in the ages to come.
Will Jesus forgive me no matter what?
There is no sin too big that Jesus cannot forgive. He transformed Paul from a killer of saints into a saint and held nothing against him. He says in the book of 1st John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Furthermore, Jesus noted while teaching about eternal sin (blasphemy against the Holy Spirit) that all other sins can be forgiven.
Therefore, it is normal to feel like you have gone too astray and that you are beyond forgiveness. But the character of God is tied to his abundance in mercy and grace to forgive and cleanse us from our sins when we confess and repent. Therefore, if you feel so big of a sinner, do not go and seek satisfaction from anything else; Christ wants you to run to him. He died for you when you were deep in sin, and he will forgive you now if you sin.
Will Jesus forgive me if I sin deliberately?
Though there is a lot of debate concerning the forgiveness of intentional and unintentional sin, there is no sin that Jesus cannot forgive. However, the Bible warns us against sinning deliberately. The book of Romans 6:2 says, “So, shall we then continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means!”
The scripture also notes that everyone will be punished to the extent of what they know. If you knew much and still went to sin, you would be punished differently from those who knew less and sinned unintentionally. Therefore, we should not sin against God deliberately but strive to walk as pure as Christ did.
How do I ask Jesus for forgiveness?
There are no miraculous words or magical formulas when asking God for forgiveness. All you have to do is confess, repent, and turn away from your sinful nature. While praying to God for forgiveness, you must first acknowledge that you have sinned and do not have the capacity to forgive yourself. You should also confess and express remorse. 2nd Corinthians 7:10 says, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”
Furthermore, while praying for forgiveness, remember that it is through the blood of Jesus that we are sanctified. Ephesians 1:7 notes that we have been redeemed through his blood, and he forgives us our sins in accordance with the riches of his grace.
How do I know Jesus has forgiven me?
We know Jesus has forgiven us through his words and actions. His words to us are found in the scripture, and he is clear that he remains faithful even when we are unfaithful. He says in his word that when his people turn away from their wicked ways, and in faith and repentance come before him, and confess and repent their sins; then he will forgive them. Therefore, we must trust his word that if we confess and turn away from our sinful ways, he will grant us the forgiveness we desire.
Therefore, all we have to do is put our faith in our savior Jesus Christ. Whatever he promises us in his word, he will fulfill. He says he will purify us from our unrighteousness if we confess, and that is how it is if we come before him and cry for forgiveness.
Is there a limit to Jesus’ forgiveness?
There is no limit to Jesus’ forgiveness. We all have a past that was full of sin and unrighteousness; however, even in our sinful nature of constantly sinning, Christ still loved us and died for us. The book of Romans 8 says that not even sin can separate us from the overwhelming love of God. And so, in his nature which is forgiving, he is always faithful to it despite the amount of time we sin. However, the Bible warns us of constantly sinning because we have an abundance of grace.
