How did Satan get into the Garden of Eden (What the Bible Says)?

Last week, I was discussing with my church members as part of my ministerial duties. Our topic was the Garden of Eden. Many things stood out, but what we talked about for hours was how the devil convinced Eve to have the forbidden fruit. Most of us wondered how did Satan get into the Garden of Eden?

According to scripture, Satan can take the form of human beings and animals. In the case of the Garden of Eden, Satan made his way into the Garden in the form of a serpent which we read through in Genesis 3:1. He could trick and lie to Eve into convincing Adam to eat the forbidden fruit in the form of a serpent.

Satan is very conniving, which is how he entered the Garden of Eden. Reading through the Garden of Eden story, you may wonder what the serpent was doing in the Garden. Also, as a Christian, the scripture tells believers that God is all-knowing. Therefore, God has His reasons for allowing Satan in the Garden of Eden, which we will discuss in the article below. Revelation 20:2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. Based on scripture, it implies that Satan entered the Garden of Eden after the creation under the disguise of the serpent. We get the first mention of the serpent in Genesis 3:1. As the verse mentions, the serpent was part of God’s creations. God made all that exists in the world. He created all animals on day six, which includes the serpent.

We get the first mention of the serpent when it approaches Eve. We can insinuate that that was when Satan made His way into the Garden of Eden. But it is essential to know that He may have made His way earlier as He watched over Adam and Eve before executing His plan.

How did Satan find the Garden of Eden?

Satan found His way into the Garden of Eden disguised as a serpent. We know the devil to be very crafty. Therefore, he devised a way to get into the Garden without getting noticed. However, we should remember that God knows all that goes on earth and in the heavens, including Satan’s plans. Under the serpent’s disguise, Satan could enter the Garden of Eden as He would blend in with the rest of the animals. Also, it would be easier to convince Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge as an animal. Had he appeared in his body, there are chances that Eve would have been scared and not complied.

Why did God allow Satan access to the Garden of Eden?

God allowed Satan into the Garden of Eden as He planned for all this to happen. It was the fall of humankind, and to achieve redemption at the end. Preachers and teachers of the scripture speak of God’s all-knowing ability. Undoubtedly, there was a reason for Him to allow Satan access to the Garden of Eden. Satan presented himself in the form of a serpent which is one of God’s creations.

We are short of understanding all that God has in store. The scripture guides us to have God’s vision and plan, which included man’s fall through the serpent’s deception. We should learn how to be content with what we know. All that happens is for God’s glory. Ultimately, after failing to follow God’s guidance, Adam and Eve realized God knows everything.

The serpent was in the Garden mainly because it is part of God’s creations. It means the serpent can be found anywhere on land. Therefore, it would be among the other animals in the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 3:1, we learn that God created the serpent, and as the scripture says, God saw everything He created as good at the end of creation. Sadly, the devil made his plans and entered the serpent. As Eve and Adam and all animals had been restricted from taking fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, so had the serpent. It is unlikely that the serpent would reach out to take the fruit on its terms without influence from Satan.

How did the serpent in the Garden of Eden become Satan?

The scripture implies that Satan can take another form which is how he was able to be the serpent in the Garden of Eden. As we read other parts of the scripture, we encounter instances where Satan took another form to execute his evil plans. In Job 1-2, we see that the devil exists in the physical state. As you read Luke 22:3, you learn that the devil entered Peter.

Several instances prove Satan would take any form. In Mark 5, we read about the legions which entered the swine but were cast into the river. These verses prove that Satan likely entered the serpent and had its way into the Garden of Eden.
