How many days does the Bible say Jesus stayed on earth after His resurrection?
Jesus stayed on earth for forty days after His resurrection, as recorded in the Holy Scriptures. In Acts 1:3, Luke states, “He also presented himself alive to them, after his passion, appearing to them throughout forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God with many elucidations.” Upon his death and crucifixion, many people did not believe that Jesus had indeed risen from the dead and was alive. So, Jesus had to come out and prove to them that, He had defied death and was no longer among the dead.
Furthermore, Jesus taught the disciples what they would face in the future and prepared them for their ministry without Christ. He promised that He would send them a helper, the Holy Spirit. Moreover, Jesus continued to teach about the kingdom of God and explain eternal life when one enters God’s kingdom. Mathew 28:16-20 says, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go forth and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Through the scriptures, we learn that Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene on Eater Sunday. He also appeared to the three women (Mary, the mother of James, Salome, and Joanna), who were on their way to break the news of Jesus’ resurrection to the disciples after being informed by an angel of God.
Therefore, Jesus’ stay on earth for forty days is justified in the Holy Scriptures, and his purpose for the stay is also accounted for.
Why did Jesus return to earth after His resurrection?
Jesus returned to the earth after His resurrection to continue with His ministry on earth as well as prepare His disciples for their mission through the great commission. He appeared to the people and visited places he had performed his ministry. He was seen in His restored body by many of His believers. He also continued with His mission of preaching the kingdom of God and preparing the people to enter the kingdom of God. It is essential that Jesus came back to prove to the people and his disciples that, indeed, he had risen from the dead. Additionally, we learn from Jesus’ stay on earth after the resurrection that Jesus had to make reconciliation and fulfill the prophecies that had been made about Him rising from the dead. He reconciled with Peter and the doubting Thomas and showed them the scars on his hands. It was also a call to those that had crucified him to turn to God and learn about the Kingdom of God because they had seen it within their eyes that, indeed, He was the true son of God the Almighty.
Jesus then gave the great commission to His disciples. He gave his disciples instructions to go out into the world, spread the word of God, and preach about the Kingdom of God. This was a call to the disciples to continue with His ministry on earth of winning more souls to Christ and ensuring that the believers live according to God’s commandments.
