As Christians, we tend to question why God would let such things happen. Christians believe that God lets everything on earth happen the way he does because he is sovereign, meaning whatever happened, he allowed that to happen.
Though God does not explicitly says in his word why he lets bad things happen to us, the book of Job gives a picture of why he does so. The scripture in the book of Job 1:1 records how Job was a righteous man who turned away from any kind of evil, yet the bible records later on that he experienced utmost pain that is almost beyond belief.
However, Job trusted the Lord all through, yet he did not know why God could have let such things happen. Job 1:21 reads, “And he said, Naked, I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LordLord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Therefore, though we might not fully understand why God lets bad things happen to us, we should hold on to the fact that we are just passing in this world, and our main focus should be on eternal life. Furthermore, theologians note that God let bad things happen for an ultimate lasting good.

Though the Bible does not clearly state that God uses bad things to accomplish good things, some passages in the scripture note that he uses everything for the good of us. Romans 8:28 reads, “We all know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

One of the most practical ways you can learn to trust God when you feel everything is not going as planned is to go back to his word and seek his Truth. God is faithful despite the circumstances you are in. The scripture in John 8:32 reads, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” Therefore, when you feel uncertain and wonder why life is throwing a curveball at you, you need to have a strong foundation in God’s word that you can stand on, and it will comfort you to not focus on the bad things but on the greater picture.
Another way to trust in God when bad things happen is to confess your unbelief to him and let him remind you of his promises again. Be open to God and let him know that you find it difficult to trust him for whatever reason. Let God guide you through your unbelief to know that he really cares for you.
Another core way to get back to trusting in God is to share the difficult times and where your faith in God is at with your community or support system (preferably those in Christ). Theologians posit that sharing your issues with those in Christ will allow you to get a Christian perspective on the issue, which will often strengthen you in the LordLord. Philemon 1:6 says, “I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.”
Lastly, remember to spend time with God through prayer, look for aspects in your life that are working out, and be grateful for that. Sometimes it can get really hard to see past a difficult time to a point you feel your whole life is a mess. In this time, take time to pause, look around your life, and count your blessings so that you may be reminded of the goodness of God in your life.
Why should I trust God when bad things happen to me?
You should trust God when bad things are happening because he is in control and requires us to have faith in him. Jeremiah 29:11 reads, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Therefore, God knew us before we were even born and our whole life before we even experienced it. We should trust in him because he is the creator and designer of our lives, and not us. We only know and see what he allows us to do, but he has the bigger picture, which we should focus on.

On the other hand, Jesus was basically fully God, but he had to go through crucifixion, such a painful experience, so we could be saved.
