The Book of Psalms has deep knowledge of what to do when faced with evil spirits. We all face the challenge of evil spirits attacking us.
So, as a Christian, it is important to know what to do when attacked by evil spirits. Last month, when a member of our bible class asked what Psalm to read when faced with evil spirits, I thought of writing this article.
As a theologian with deep knowledge of the bible, I would like to share with you the Psalms to read to pray for deliverance from evil spirits.
5 Psalms to read for evil spirits
Psalm 91:1-3
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.”
The Psalmist begins the Psalm by showing the importance of dwelling in the house of the Most High and abiding under the shadow of the Almighty.
This Psalm highlights the idea of finding refuge and security in God. So, read this Psalm to pray for deliverance from evil spirits by acknowledging that you are under the shadow of the Almighty and that evil spirits have no power over you.
Psalm 34:21-22
“Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.”
This Psalm talks about the fate of the wicked and assurance of protection and deliverance for the righteous who take refuge in the Lord.
So, when attacked by evil spirits, read this Psalm because it encourages you to put your trust in God and to live rightly since this can protect you from evil spirits.
Psalm 121
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”
The Psalmist in this Psalm speaks of how he lifts his eyes to the mountains but declares that his help comes from the Lord.
This Psalm establishes that help and deliverance come from God. So, you can read this Psalm to believe in the help of God to deliver you from evil spirits.
Psalm 35:1-4
“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid. Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to me, ‘I am your salvation.'”
The Psalmist, in these verses, asks God to contend with those who contend with him and fight those who fight him.
So, this Psalm is more like a prayer to God for deliverance from adversaries, oppressors, and evil spirits.
Psalm 71:1-24
“In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.”
This Psalm shows a broader picture of seeking God’s intervention and protection during adversaries and troubles. It teaches the principle of dependence on God, trust in His deliverance, and the importance of seeking refuge in God.
