The gospel books account for the life of Jesus; his life on earth, crucifixion, death, and finally, his resurrection. These four books talk extensively about the teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ. His disciples got the rare privilege of experiencing Christ both physically and spiritually. However, in today’s Christian community, we do not have such a privilege as Jesus said before his death that he would send us the Holy Spirit, who is now our helper and guides us. Jesus noted that he was going to be with the Father. However, does the bible account for what he is doing? What is Jesus doing right now?
What the Bible is clear about is that Jesus is in heaven. And though we cannot say with certainty what he is doing right now, there are several passages that hint at what Jesus is doing right now. Theologians note that Jesus is in heaven doing God’s will, and we, as his followers, should do the same here on earth. The book of John 14:1-3 indicates that Jesus is in heaven preparing a place for us and preparing for his second coming.
So, where is Jesus right now? Does the Bible specify what Jesus is doing right now? What are some things that Jesus is doing in heaven right now, according to the Bible? Continue reading to get more information and answers to these questions and more.
Where is Jesus right now?
The New Testament is clear that Jesus is in heaven and seated on the right hand of the Father. Mark 16:19 reads, “So then the Lord Jesus after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.” The book of 1st Peter 3:22 also agrees that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God with authorities, powers, and angels having been subjected to him.
Theologians claim that the ascension of Jesus to heaven happened forty days after his resurrection (Luke 24:51, Acts 1:9-11). When he went to heaven, Jesus told his disciples that he was going to his Father’s house to prepare a place for us (John 14:2-3).
The scripture paints a clear picture of the ascension of Jesus Christ to heaven. It was bodily and literal, as he was seen rising from the ground and being received by two angels in heaven. Acts 1:11 reads, “And said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go to heaven.”
Other verses that indicate and agree that Jesus is in heaven include; Mathew 26:64, Ephesians 1:20, Revelation 5:7, Colossians 3:1, Hebrews 12:1, and the gospel of Luke 22:69. So, there is enough biblical proof to conclude that Jesus is in heaven; which is a place where God and his angel dwell at. However, he is also here with us through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the Trinity is everywhere, and not just in heaven alone.

Does the Bible specify what Jesus is doing right now?
It is okay to wonder what Jesus is doing right now as we do not have the privilege to experience his physical form as his disciples did. However, theologians and bible readers claim that where Jesus is now and what he is doing benefits us Christians more than if he had decided to stay on earth. However, even with all the discussions and debates on what he is doing right now, what we are sure is that he is conquered death and the grave, and he is with God in heaven right now.
Therefore, though we might not really know what he is doing in heaven right now, some passages in the Bible give us a clue. Jesus is our mediator to God, and so he is doing that in heaven. He is presenting our requests to God as the scripture calls him our high priest. Christ pleads to God our cases on our behalf. 1st Timothy 2:5 says, “There is one God and one mediator who can reconcile God and humanity, the man Christ Jesus.” Therefore, just as he died for us so that we may grow closer to God, he is still mediating on our behalf in heaven.
The book of Romans 8:34 assures us that Christ is interceding for us in heaven. “Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God, and he is interceding for us.” Jesus assured us just before his death that he would be back to take us with him. He cares for us so much that he accepted to go through the painful experience of being crucified just that one day we might go and be with him in heaven. And even as he prepares a place for us, he is interceding for us too.
Furthermore, the scripture indicates that Jesus is in heaven, preparing a place for believers. Before his death, Jesus assured his disciples that he was going to send them a helper, who is the Holy Spirit, as he went to prepare a place for us in his Father’s house, which is in heaven. He went ahead and promised us that not only would he come for us, but he would also take us to heaven to be with him. John 14:3 says, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am, you may also be.”
Therefore, it is clear that Jesus is doing God’s will in heaven. What God really wants is to reconnect with humanity, and so Jesus fulfills that. He is our high priest, our mediator; he intercedes for us and even went to heaven to prepare a place for us.
Things Jesus is doing in heaven right now, according to the Bible.
According to the Bible, Jesus is currently seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. The right hand is a position of honor and authority. As stated earlier, Mark 16:19 notes that Jesus was taken up into heaven after he finished talking to his disciples and is now at the right hand of God. Jesus was exalted at the right hand of God after his resurrection and ascension.
Additionally, Jesus acts as a mediator between God and humanity, and he is currently mediating between us and God. He is the “intercessor” for believers, and bible readers, and scholars note that he is actively involved in the lives of those who trust him. “Therefore, he can completely save those who come to God through him because he always lives to intercede for them.” Hebrews 7:25. When we pray, we go to the Father through the Son and ask him to go before us.
He is also reigning as King of kings and Lord of lords and will return at the end of time to judge the living and the dead. “And He has on His robe and His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16. These titles emphasize Jesus’ authority and power and acknowledge him as the ultimate ruler over all earthly kings and lords. The title is also used to assert Jesus’ divinity and his role as the Messiah or savior of humanity. The role that he is currently playing in heaven.
Moreover, Jesus is preparing a place for His followers and establishing his kingdom. “Do not let your hearts be troubled in God; also believe in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?” John 14:1-2. Christians believe that the place Jesus is preparing is their eternal dwelling place after they die.
He is also still doing the work of salvation and redemption. Jesus’ mission on earth was to redeem humans from their evil ways. Anyone who confesses that Jesus is Lord and believes he was raised from the dead will be saved. His work did not just end on earth, but bible readers believe that it is ongoing in heaven as he prepares a place for those who believe in him.
