Sometimes we deviate from the Lord and get lost in the flesh. The scripture clearly shows that anything of the flesh or the world is the enemy of God. Or just, sometimes, we go through a lot in life to the point that we feel like Jesus has abandoned us and wants nothing to do with us. However, is that really true? Will Jesus ever leave me?
The scripture is clear that he will never leave nor forsake you. Therefore, through the storms of life, he promises to give us the strength to push through. However, there are some instances in the bible where the Holy Spirit withdrew from men of God. This happens when we constantly suppress the will of God in our lives. However, if we remain in him, he will never leave us; he sent us the Spirit to be our helper and comforter.
So, what does it mean that Jesus will never leave you? Where in the bible does it say Jesus will never leave you? Can Jesus withdraw from you? What happens if Jesus leaves me? What should I do if I feel that Jesus has abandoned me? Keep reading to get answers to these questions and more.
What does it mean that Jesus will never leave you?
Jesus will never leave you because he will be with you in every step you take in your spiritual journey. Christ clearly knows that walking in him will not be easy, as the world will hate us as it hates him. But we have to remain in him as we will be overcomers like he did. Even after going to heaven, Christ did as he promised that he would not leave us as orphans but sent us the Holy Spirit, who is our comforter and helper.
John 14:16-17 says, “And I will ask the father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
Where in the bible does it say Jesus will never leave you?

Jesus reassures his disciples in the book of Mathew 28:20 that he will never leave their side. The verse reads, “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.” The 12 disciples of Jesus were among the closest people Christ had on his side while on earth as they went across the world preaching and teaching the gospel with him. By Christ reassuring them that he will never leave them till the end of the age, it indicates that if you walk in Christ, he will never leave you.
Jesus also assures us in John 14:18, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” Jesus keeps his word as he later noted that he will send us a helper who will guide us when he goes to be with the father. He sent the Holy Spirit, who stays in us and guides us till the judgment day when Jesus Christ will come for us.
Furthermore, John 3:16 is the reassurance of Jesus’ love for us and that as long as we stay in him, he will never leave us. Christ loves us and wants us to have fellowship with the father. As long as we abide in him, he will always be there as our pillar that we can run to whenever we need support.
Can Jesus withdraw from you?
If we constantly suppress the will of God in our lives, Jesus will withdraw from us. In today’s world, because Christ lives in us through the Holy Spirit, it is the Spirit of the Lord that will depart from us. Though some theologians argue that the Spirit of the Lord cannot leave one, there are several instances in the bible that the Spirit left God’s people. The book of 1st Samuel 16:14 records that the Holy Spirit left Saul. The Spirit also left Samson as accounted in the book of Judges, and David prays in the book of Psalms 51:11 and asks God not to cast him away from his Spirit. To ensure that Jesus stays alive in you through the Holy Spirit, you have to abide in him, as it is only in him we can bear fruits.
What happens if Jesus leaves me?
When Jesus leaves you, it means you have lost a special anointing of the Holy Spirit. However, it is not the end of the chapter if you feel Christ has left you. Even when we were sinners, he said he loved us, and he still loves us. The scripture says that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Therefore, if you have suppressed his will to the point that you feel he has left you, go back to him just like the Israelites, confess your sins, repent, turn away from your evil ways, and Christ will have his way through you again.
What should I do if I feel that Jesus has abandoned me?

You can remind yourself of Jesus’ overwhelming love and support when you feel like he has abandoned you is to read his words and to affirm yourself. Romans 8:39 says, “Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The scripture assures us that Christ will never forsake us, and nothing can separate us from his love. It is important to use his promises as affirmations when you feel abandoned. Furthermore, fellowship and sharing with fellow believers will help you regain your faith in his promise that he will never leave us.
Lastly, spending time in prayer communicating to him and vulnerably telling him that you are struggling to believe in his promises and feel abandoned is key. Allow him to speak to you and work his way into you. Even in your darkest moments, turn to him, for he wants the best for you.
